Our successes with the dual language program here at Kingsley Elementary School led to us being featured in the media recently.
The LAUSD Daily was with us as we welcomed fellow educators from Argentina. We were happy to share ideas and demonstrate best practices for teaching in a Spanish-English language setting. “My experience has been extremely satisfying,” said Milagros Frias, a primary school teacher in Buenos Aires, through an interpreter. “I discovered new teaching methodologies and have a number of great ideas to implement with my own students. Every teacher here was very generous and attentive. I was able to take away something unique and inspiring from each one.”
In an article covering LAUSD’s plan to double the number of schools offering dual language programs by next year, LA School Report noted that Principal Karina Salazar “explained her successes. She talked about different math programs, different models of teaching English, and using small groups to help students. Another key element was engaging the parents through parent workshops and showing them instructional tools.” And our own fourth-grader, Kaylee Gramajo, spoke about her experience: “I really enjoy school, and I understand math and English in both languages.” Watch the video of this presentation.
